HRWA kicks off three-part leadership series led by Amy Brin on January 29

The Horse Racing Women’s Association (HRWA) has announced “Winning Strategies,” a three-part professional development series designed to support women as they navigate leadership, communication and decision-making in today’s thoroughbred industry. The series is powered by Amy Brin, MSN, MA, PCNS-BC, a nationally recognized leadership strategist with more than 20 years of experience guiding executives and organizations through change.

In 2024, Brin entered the thoroughbred industry as Interim Executive Director of Light Up Racing, bringing her background in healthcare leadership, nonprofit governance and coalition building to the racing world.

Available exclusively to HRWA members, the virtual series focuses on practical leadership tools and peer connection. Through guided discussions, real-world case studies and reflective exercises, Winning strategies The aim is to provide participants with both practical skills and the confidence to apply them in professional settings.

“Winning Strategies is about giving women in racing the space, resources and confidence to emerge as leaders – right where they are,” said Jordyn Egan of the HRWA Executive Committee. “This series reflects what our members consistently tell us they want: practical support, honest dialogue and a strong network of colleagues who understand the realities of this sector.”

Each session lasts 90 minutes and takes place virtually. While participants are encouraged to attend all three sessions for maximum impact, participation in individual sessions is also supported.

Session One: Taking the Reins – Leading with Confidence

The opening session focuses on communicating clearly and courageously. Participants explore their leadership strengths and communication styles while examining common workplace dynamics such as navigating hierarchy, dealing with interruptions, and developing leadership presence. Case-based learning bases the discussion on scenarios familiar to many women who work in racing organizations.

Session Two: Unbridled Voices: Boundaries, Balance, and Growth

February 26, 2026 | 10am PT / 1pm ET

The second session is about professional development and sustainability. Topics include setting and maintaining healthy boundaries in the workplace, turning fear into action, and building self-confidence. Participants will explore case studies that address issues such as being underestimated, struggling to say no, and cultivating balanced professional relationships.

Session Three: In the Stretch – Strategic Leadership Lab

March 26, 2026 | 10am PT / 1pm ET

The final session focuses on application. Participants work through high-stakes leadership moments – often referred to as “the stretch run,” where outcomes are determined – using frameworks for decision-making, influence and resilience. The session will also explore dealing with pressure, bias and resistance while strengthening connections with colleagues through shared problem solving.
