The announcement came with a massive 31-minute gameplay demo. Captured in-game on a Nvidia RTX4090the images introduce players to a dark, mysterious world.
A mysterious new world
The game has a creepy and unnerving atmosphere. In fact, the atmosphere seems to bear a strong resemblance to Control. The demo takes place at the beginning of the game in the offices of a mysterious organization called SEAL (Shadow Emergency Alliance).
Players control a protagonist called ‘Hallowone’. According to the game description, her appearance will actually change to “suit each viewer’s preferences.” Her motives are grim. She plans to join SEAL because one of their officers “killed her former self.” The plot remains secret, but the video mentions devastating phenomena such as “Mindrot” and “Cognosea disrupting events”.
Umbrellas, stealth and combat
The gameplay reveals a unique combat style. Hollow fight using an umbrella she kept from the SEAL agent linked to her ‘death’. She uses this weapon for quick combos and strikes with it both closed and open. Additionally, the umbrella functions as an auto-returning thrown weapon and a tool for traversing multi-level puzzles by hovering.
The combat is real-time and flashy. One power-up technique even resembles summoning Personas Person 3although she uses her hand instead of an “Evoker”. Furthermore, it supports the game stealth. Players can perform automatic kill moves as they sneak up behind enemies unnoticed.
The demo also showed off a party system. Two other characters appeared showing how players can quickly switch teammates to use unique movesets and extend combos. Outside of combat, the video demonstrated open-world exploration through car and foot travel.
Release status
Eager fans will have to wait. Varsapura currently has no release date.
HoYoverse has revealed that this is the case currently hiring for a range of functions including programming, design and art. Based on this recruitment drive, it may take some time before players get their hands on this new title.
