Catching an iron crispy is the purpose of every swing. The movement with which you can do this comes steeply enough, so that you first hit the ball and the grass in front of the ball second. It starts with a solid position when you reach the top of your backswing.

This exercise can help. If you are on the reach, turn back. While you wave to the top, you feel the left edge of your cap (the side of your target) slightly lower than the right. When you do that, your front shoulder is automatically tilted lower to the ground than your rear shoulder – that is the position you need to make a solid, downward stroke on the ball. Instead of worrying about your swing, you just think of that left side of your edge. If it drops at the top, you are solid.
The same can be done if you practice photos with your driver. Here you want the feeling that the right side of the edge is lower than left, giving you a powerful, upward perspective. It sounds funny, but getting your edge in the right place for both clubs at the right point your shoulders will vote both at the top and impact and by magic. The result: Boom!
