How to repair the accommodation TV tonight

After this Sunday’s accommodation, TV networks must seriously watch how they can restore independence to a defective awards evening.

On Sunday evening when Lynne McGranger runs away with the Gold Logie, this will mark the highlight of more than 3 decades on television in the role of Irene Roberts.

She rightly gets a standing ovation from the room for her oeuvre as Matriarch of Summer Bay and a quiet performance.

In a commentary on Seven’s heavy marketing strategy, the Sydney Morning Herald asked last week: “Who wins the Gold Logie? And why is it Lynne McGranger?”

McGranger would also be the third Gold Logie winner, because seven paid the rights to the prizes as part of a 5 -year -old deal under former CEO James Warburton.

This year’s recipient of Fame is also strongly aligned with seven, although not exclusively, following Rebecca Gibney. They are all worthy receivers.

Sam Pang will be a fantastic host when he comes on stage on Sunday, in addition to musical artists Jimmy Barnes, Richard Marx (both of whom will appear in the next seven music broadcasts) and ex-Voice Coach Guy Sebastian.

But compared to the Aacta AwardsThe TV week Logie Awards are broken.

Why? TV -week she no longer runs.

They do not supervise the assessment process, which is complex and problematic. Times have changed since the TV week handed over the list of winners to producers, just when the event was to be broadcast.

TV Week, which owns the IP, is only a media brand. It falls for the broadcaster, currently seven, and the appointed Creative Agency Fourth Wall (formerly Nine / Rizer) to manage the process, with KPMG.

But if the industry wants to retain the integrity of its brand, Pubishers should be media*, networks and streamers have to ask questions with a view to independence, fairness and better participation by the Australian public.

As broadcasters, seven must also be open to dialogue and new ideas.

And media journalists must offer a better investigation instead of just sailing to ask a red carpet talent who they wear.

Here are some suggestions …

Change the date
Let’s start moving the date back to March / April. Augustus is much too late to applaud shows back to April 2024. Apart from a few 7:30 reality franchises, viewers have no memories for content that far back. What was on SBS in April 2024? You tell me.

Return publicly to the nomination process
Judges in the industry and some unknown assessments of the assessments should not determine the popular categories for the public. Based on feedback from TVT reader, viewers want to help determine this shortlist as they used to.

Recovery popular / excellent categories
Life was simple when the audience voted for popular and branchers who voted in excellent categories. Why did you tamper with it?

Delete reviews as nominated criteria
See above. There is no fairness in the current system in measurement, accountability or common sense. The best or excellent should be an artistic merit. It is nothing to do with how many people are matched.

Set up a accommodation committee
This is where the hard yards have to start. Aacta Awards has a board of directors. Beds used to have a team with the publishers – divorcing for the magazine – who would make important decisions. It no longer serves this. Networks must insist on an independent group to serve as preservators of the prizes and to manage the jury process independently of the broadcaster or the appointed agent. This may be controlled via free TV (if it welcomes streamers), screen diversity inclusion network (it has repetitions of each network) or a similar bodywork. Accountability and protection of the heritage is integral.

Nominees must be inhabitants of Australia
There are increasingly too many nominees who are international artists, who are dedicated Australian talent from the local screen industry. Beds are an opportunity for their star to rise and go to other roles. Our industry is still small and it must offer them every chance.

Repair the best new talent
This category must go to real emerging artists. In 2013, Joel Madden Robert Irwin, David Campbell, Alex Williams and Will McDonald beat. Since then it has been problematic.

Address Hall of Fame
TV is old. We now lose legends every year. It was shameful that groundbreaking journalist Caroline Jones was never inaugurated prior to her death. Or even posthumously. If we do not tackle a number game, we will lose more legends before they are properly recognized. The list of Inductees is also dominated by white men. There are 4 women and 30 men. It no longer represents who we are like a nation, an industry or as an audience. There is no first nations representation and minimal LGBTQIA+. The idea of one man, one woman, one show has been suggested, but nobody wants a long prize evening to run longer. A separate event can tackle this, but how would it be financed? About to your steering committee.

Category Confusion
Remove one -off events from competing in addition to current series, if necessary create a separate entertainment category for New Year’s Eve, Carols by Candlelight, Countdown 50 years etc.

Sponsors must ask difficult questions.
Looking at your destination NSW. NSW GOVT must demand a better accountability of how the event is managed, how the money is spent.

TV tonight has been contacted by judges who are not satisfied with the current system, for fear of the Logically 65+ years if the prices of the viewing public are at risk. Where from here?

It is up to industry to demand better.

Vote on 65th TV -Week Logie AwardsScreening at 7 pm Sunday 3 August by seven.
