I have often written about the four different paths to wealth. Nearly all self-made millionaires follow one or more of these four paths to wealth:

  1. Saver/investor path
  2. Climbing path of the big company
  3. Virtuoso path
  4. Dreamer/entrepreneur path

The path of the dreamer/entrepreneur is the most difficult of the four paths to wealth. It is also the fastest and most rewarding path, both financially and emotionally. In my Rich Habits Study, it only took the dreamer/entrepreneurs in my study an average of 12 years to amass an average of $7.4 million in wealth.

But there’s a catch.

Those who succeed in following the path of the dreamer-entrepreneur must follow that path so that Opportunity Luck can visit them. In my research, I discovered that the perseverants ultimately get lucky and the unique type of luck these dreamer-entrepreneurs create is called Opportunity Luck.

Occasional luck is unique because it is manufactured luck. You create opportunity happiness by doing things that create the opportunity for happiness to occur.

One of the things that creates opportunity happiness is the persistent pursuit of a dream.

Pursuing a dream requires creating goals. Goals should do two things:

  1. Physical activity and
  2. 100% feasibility

Dreams unleash passion that motivates you to set goals and take action. If you have the required skills and knowledge to take that action, the goals become 100% achievable.

The purpose of any goal is to achieve a certain desired outcome. However, sometimes these results meet or even exceed your expectations.

Exceeded expectations or unexpected positive results = Opportunity Luck – happiness you create by persistently pursuing the goals behind your dreams.

Occasional luck loves dreamers. And it only reveals itself to dreamers who take action to make their dreams come true, through goals.

If you are the beneficiary of Opportunity Luck, your life will improve in some way. Very often this benefit comes in the form of wealth or money, especially if your dream is something that can make money.

Mark Zuckerberg was the beneficiary of Opportunity Luck. So did Steve Jobs, Thomas Edison, Warren Buffet and Bill Gates.

They all took action to make their dreams come true, and they were lucky.

Opportunity Luck does not visit those sitting on the couch watching TV. It doesn’t visit those who read Harry Potter (unless you’re JK Rowling). It does not visit those who are too afraid to pursue their dreams and therefore the goals behind their dreams.

Opportunity Luck only visits those who take action to make their dreams come true and refuse to give up on their dreams.

The manifestation of Opportunity Luck is one of the great secrets of success, which only a few know about.

Pursue a dream today. Be ruthless in that pursuit. Stop thinking about the outcomes and just be persistent in pursuing your dreams and the goals behind your dreams.

If you persevere, Opportunity Luck will eventually come knocking on your door. It could be a ‘lucky’ meeting with a Power Influencer who can help you realize your dream. It could be a big new customer that takes your business to the next level. Or it could be unexpected media attention for your company.

For every dreamer, hard work, disappointments, obstacles and problems are your bedfellows, but so is Opportunity Luck, for those who simply refuse to give up.

And when Opportunity Luck finds you, everything in your life changes forever.
