CP Radhakrishnan is a long-distance drug, says the profile of the Maharashtra governor. Most athletes use their mouths not to shoot, but to breathe during activities with high intensity. Radhakrishnan also kept his mouth shut while he continued his duties, unlike various governors who have been in the news for their confrontations with the state governments. Radhakrishnan, who has run politically a long distance, has now been nominated by the BJP as the NDA’s vice-presidential candidate after the resignation of Dhankhar.

On Sunday, the BJP parliamentary council endors its name as a vice-presidential candidate. The two-time MP from Coimbatore and former Tamil Nadu BJP chef is an experienced politician with a career rooted in basic policy, which includes more than four decades.

Radhakrishnan, a long-distance runner in real life, also fits the technique of a marathon runner on his career to work with his energy to make steps that are measured and impactful. Perhaps this is the reason why he carries the image of a no-nonsense, results-driven politician within the BJP.

The 68-year-old is a real party man, and his long-standing association with the BJP makes him a natural choice for the post of the vice president.

The post is also important because the vice-president of India is the ex-officio chairman of the Rajya Sabha, the house of the elderly. It needs an experienced politician with authority to manage the house.

Radhakrishnan is a politician who is also praised by rival parties.

A senior DMK leader, the most important rival of the BJP in Tamil Nadu, reportedly said that he was “a good man in the wrong party”. The comment is important because the second Lok Sabha victory of Radhakrishnan with the support of the DMK, an ally of the congress came.

This rare ability to promote dual goodwill is also what makes him an ideal choice for the vice-presidential candidate of NDA. Here is how he is “quiet” different from other governors.

1. CP Radhakrishnan: a non-confronting governor

Unlike some of his counterparts in other states, such as Tamil Nadu -Gouverneur Rn Ravi, CV Ananda Bose van West -Bengal, Punjab’s Gulab Chand Kataria, or even former Governors Jagdeep Dhankhar and the late Satyapal Malik, his Demure Style is known.

Over the years he has cultivated a reputation for avoiding confrontation. His term of office as a Maharashtra governor since July 2024 is particularly low-profile, with minimal media attention.

It could be claimed that Maharashtra is a state ruled by the NDA with a prime minister of the BJP, but his earlier stint in Jharkhand is also proof that he retains the dignity of the office.

Like the Governor of Jharkhand, Radhakrishnan Was more focused on interaction with citizens and district officials than on struggle to the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), an ally of the congress and part of the India Bloc.

If Rajya Sabha chairman would navigate his ability to navigate through the often fractious dynamics of the height house of invaluable value.

2. Grassroots Politician with Multi-State action

Originally from Tamil Nadu’s Tiruppur District, the political journey of Radhakrishnan started in his teenage years as an RSS Swayamsevak. He later joined the Jana Sangh, the precursor of the BJP, and served as the RSS Tirupur Town Chief and District Chief.

He was also the secretary of the Tamil Nadu BJP in 1996 and state chairman from 2004 to 2007.

During this period he led a 19,000 km Rath Yatra for 93 days, where he argued for issues such as River Links, the extermination of terrorism and fighting untouchability. His ability to work quietly, but effectively in the base has made him a trusted figure within the ranks of the BJP.

While politicians have become governors and vice-presidents, but Radhakrishnan stands out because of its basic connections and massive attraction.

And it is not only Tamil Nadu, Radhakrishnan also played an active role in Kerala, where he was the chairman of the coconut board.

Even Minister of the Interior and BJP leader Amit Shah praised his enormous experience and said: “Your role as a parliamentarian and as governor of different states have played an important role in effectively fulfilling constitutional duties. I am sure that your enormous experience and wisdom will improve the prestige of the higher house and reach new militons.”

3. CP Radhakrishnan: The Vajpayee van Coimbatore

Locally dubbed the “Vajpayee van Coimbatore” for its sympathetic nature, Radhakrishnan has long shown that it can be demonstrated to cut bines to get support. That is an essential skill for his potential role as Rajya Sabha chairman if he manages to win the elections.

His Lok Sabha victory in Coimbatore in 1999 came with the support of the DMK, even though the parties were rivals. This shows its political insight and the ability to transcend divides. A year earlier he won with the support of the Aiadmk, the rival of the DMK, but then a BJP fellow.

Yet there is also a cupboard factor in the game. Coming from the Gousder (OBC) community, which carries a significant election weight in Tamil Nadu prior to the 2026 polls, its height is seen as a movement to consolidate the Gounder -Stem base.

Apart from the caste-community mathematics, as governor, Radhakrishnan has been non-confronting and his political career shows that he is actually a long-distance runner.
