Christian Horner has accepted a resignation package from Red Bull that formally ends his relationship with the team, two months after he was fired as the Red Bull Racing team head.
“We want to thank Christian for his exceptional work in the past 20 years,” said Oliver Mintzlaff, CEO business projects and investments.
“With his tireless dedication, experience, expertise and innovative thinking, he played an important role in setting up Red Bull Racing as one of the most successful and attractive teams in Formula 1. Thank you for everything, Christian, and you will forever remain an important part of our team history.”
A team statement did not offer any details about the conditions of the settlement, but different points of sale have placed the figure between $ 70 million and $ 100 million.
Horner led Red Bull Racing from the beginning in 2005 and sent the team to six constructors championships, eight drivers titles, 124 Grand Prix victories and 107 Poles.
He earned a reported salary of 12 million euros ($ 14.1 million USD) with a contract that went through until 2030 when he was relieved of his duties in July and was replaced by Laurent Mekies.
According to reports, Horner can return to F1 with another team with another team next year.
“Leading Red Bull Racing has been an honor and privilege,” said Horner.
“When we started in 2005, none of us could have imagined the journey for us-the championships, the races, the people, the memories. I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved as a team, break records and reach heights that no one could ever believe, and I will wear it forever with me.
“For me, however, my greatest satisfaction is the assembly and leading of the most amazing group of talented and driven individuals, and they see flourishing as a subsidiary of an energy drinking company, and seeing them to record it and beat some of the largest car tires in the world.”
