Hoofdklasse: Why round 9 was special for and Schaerweijde and Hoedemakers

Schaerweijde suffered a big defeat at home against Oranje-Rood (1-5) on Thursday evening and thus took over the leading position in the Premier League from Amsterdam. Despite the eighth defeat in nine games, the men from Zeist still had reason to laugh and take pictures with each other afterwards.

Under the motto “every success should be celebrated”, coach Razwan Ahmed’s team celebrated a special anniversary. Teun van Aalderen’s goal against the Oranje-Rood – a shot on goal that went into the goal via Tijmen Reyenga’s stick – was Schaerweijde’s goal 500th goal in the big league. It took the team seventeen seasons and 357 games to reach that milestone.

Frank Wever was the creator of Schaerweijde’s very first goal in the Premier League on September 23, 1973. He used a penalty in the away match against HTCC, which the Zeists won 0-1. Former striker Michiel van Houten can call himself Schaerweijde’s most successful shooter in the Premier League: he scored forty goals between 1973 and 1981.

Milestone for hat makers

Rotterdam striker Tjep Hoedemakers also had reason to celebrate a success. In the home match against Laren he contributed one goal to a big 6-2 victory. That goal, his sixth in this competition, was his 50th Premier League goal for the Rotterdam team.

With seven goals, Amsterdam is Hoedemakers’ favorite opponent, who scored 46 times from field goals and four times via a penalty corner. He scored 23 of his 50 goals on the home field on Hazelaarweg and scored the opening goal six times in a match.

With six goals after nine games, Hoedemakers is on course for a new personal goals record. That stands at 11 goals and dates back to the 2023-2024 season.
