Honor the RA272, a legacy you can be part of

When we set out to create our first Formula 1 car, the RA271, our engineers designed something that only dreamers could bring to life. The car was built entirely by Honda and featured a revolutionary 1.5-liter V-12 engine. At the time this was surprising, as V-8s dominated the paddock. The V-12 would be one of the many things that led us to victory at the 1965 Mexican Grand Prix.

After a series of challenges with the RA271, our improved car, the RA272, paved the way for a new era of F1 racing. With Richie Ginther behind the wheel, our victory in the 1965 Mexican GP marked the first win by a Japanese team and a Japanese car. The victory would also be the first of many victories for Honda to date.

At this year’s Mexican GP, ​​Oracle Red Bull Racing driver Yuki Tsunoda took the original 1965 RA272 on a monumental demonstration ride to commemorate the 60th anniversary of our first victory. This moment of recognition served as a powerful reminder that Honda is committed to refining its technology to deliver excitement and embrace the dreams of motorsports fans everywhere.
