Class Action Law -based settlement that is put on hold to determine whether all affected vehicles are included.

Honda agreed with the settlement of the Idle Stop right case after owners of vehicles had complained that the engines did not start again when they should have done so.

Deadlines were established with regard to details of the settlement agreement. Days ago, however, the judge was asked to pause all deadlines after the parties had discovered possible problems with regard to which vehicles were included in the Honda Idle Stop Settlement.

On July 31, the claimants discovered a federal investigation into Honda Idle Stop problems showing that Honda reported that 144,010 total vehicle identification numbers were associated with certain 2017-2018 and 2020 ACURA MDX vehicles.

The number of VINs reported to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration included 74,120 Extra Total Vins for 2017, 2018 and 2020 ACURA MDX vehicles that were not part of the Vins Honda identified as vehicles that would be included in the settlement.

According to judicial documents, there is a problem if all affected vehicle owners and tenants were not correctly informed of the Honda Idle Stop arrangement.

“If the extra vehicles are class vehicles, current and former owners or tenants of the extra vehicles, class members who have the right to participate in the settlement and the right to reasonable notification are.”

Honda says it needs more time to confirm whether extra vehicles should be included in the inactive stop winding.

The automaker says: “Resolution of this number needs a complex study into production records for different vehicle finishes and combinations of the engine type (some of which were not equipped with the AIS function in question) for the MDX vehicle 2017, 2018 and 2020 model year.”

Both parties also work on details about Honda dealers and what they have to do according to the conditions of the Idle Stop Settlement Agreement.

According to judicial documents:

“Honda has worked together on tackling this dealer issue by, among other things, sending an extra message, apart from the amended Servicebulletins to Honda and Acura dealers to further inform them of the repair procedure for settlement agreement. The parties need extra time to verify the activity of the dealers’.”
