Honda CR-V hybrid SUVs lose power while driving

The FBI opens a defect investigation after Honda dealers have trouble pinpointing the cause.

– Model year 2020–2022 Honda CR-V Hybrids lose power while driving and federal regulators want to know why.

Dozens of Honda CR-V Hybrid drivers have complained about SUVs losing power out of nowhere while driving.

The indicator lights typically started flashing just before the hybrids lost drive.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened an investigation into the problem, but so far Honda CR-V Hybrid owners and dealers have had trouble getting things resolved.

Drivers complained that once the power went out, it could be restored by turning the ignition off and on again, but doing that also cleared the check engine lights and cleared any set diagnostic trouble codes.

Honda drivers further complain about repeated visits to dealerships, but technicians cannot replicate the power problem because it comes out of nowhere. And Honda technicians can’t find deleted trouble codes.

In addition, Honda told NHTSA it was not aware of any complaints or repair trends related to CR-V hybrids losing power while driving.

Nearly 125,000 Honda CR-V Hybrids are included in the power loss study.

CarComplaints.com will update our website with the results of the federal investigation.
