If you are a sweet and spicy flavors fan, then this homemade sweet chili sauce might just be your new go-to-specij! It is made with clean ingredients (not a high fructose corn syrup here). Instead, you will find honey, garlic and red pepper flakes for a kick. Sweet chili sauce is perfect for sprinkling, immersing or adding some sweet heat to your favorite dishes.

What is sweet chili sauce?

Well, it’s great for one! Unlike my hot honey recipe, it is cooked to help merge the flavors. You will find natural honey for sweetness, coconut aminos and garlic for that umami taste, and rice vinegar and lemon for a little sour to balance the candy. And of course, red pepper flakes for heat.

Because this is homemade, you can add more or fewer pepper flakes, depending on how spicy you like it. The recipe also uses non-gmo cornflour for getting thicker, but Arrowroot should work if you need a sub.

How you can use sweet chili sauce

This works great as a dipping sauce for things like chicken wings, but it’s just at home with roasted vegetables. I also like to add it to stiry surfaces to give them a small skin. Try it with roasted or fried potatoes or pork. It is much better than everything you would find in a bottle in the store (Hello MSG!), Plus you can feel good about the ingredients.

It is easy to make and comes together within a few minutes. And it takes a maximum of three weeks in the fridge, so it is easy to stay with you to take a meal. Moreover, it is free from artificial additives, dyes or weird things, so you can have all the sweet herbs with none of the mess.

Here is how you make clean, sweet chili sauce that can elevate any meal!

This sweet and spicy sauce is perfect for immersing, sprinkling or glazing!

  • Add all the ingredients in a medium -sized saucepan. Beat everything together to ensure that the cornflour is completely dissolved before you are heated.

  • Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the sauce to a soft boil. As soon as it starts to cook, put the heat to medium -high and let the sauce simmer for about 5 minutes, stir regularly. This helps the sauce get too thicker and the flavors to melt together.

  • Remove the sauce from the heat after 5 minutes. Let it cool for 5 to 10 minutes to thicken further. You will find that it becomes shiny and slippery when it cools.

  • Once the sauce has cooled to room temperature, pour it into a clean pot or bottle. Tight and store it in the fridge. This sauce stays fresh for a maximum of 3 weeks.
