Last season’s best two-year-old, who had already achieved a sweep in his five appearances, was resumed after a few months. And he faced a strong field including former New Zealander Zeus Lightning, and Mark Stanley’s highly sought-after trio of Soho Trump, Soho Park Avenue and Soho Charmer, as well as Bathurst Gold Crown winner Message Bank.

HOLLYWOOD STRIP FEB 14 REPEAT

However, any doubts about the Hollywood Strip were quickly dispelled as he quickly found the front and established a clear lead over Soho Trump.

Driver Brad Hewitt, who won the Albury Cup with Captains Knock 24 hours earlier, ensured that Hollywood Strip ran a smooth 27.1 seconds in the first quarter. He then took a breather before going into overdrive in the final corner.

Zeus Lightning tried in vain to gain ground, but was eventually held safely to five meters with Soho Trump in third place. Hollywood Strip ran its final quarter in 26.5 seconds and a total mile pace of 1.50.4.

The win earned Hollywood Strip an automatic invitation to the Group 1 $150,000 New South Wales Pacers Derby, held on Miracle Mile night on March 14.

Brad Hewitt was satisfied after the event.

He got a little excited tonight. Just during the tie-ups and on the court he was looking and staring at things again. But it’s good to get that first run over with and I’m sure he’ll be a lot better for it.

I was happy enough with his work, he was still a bit short on his preparation, so I thought I’d take a chance if he happened to sign and get the right kind of trip. He certainly did well enough to win. He came out and went as I expected.

All credit to Mick Boots (the owner), he spends a lot of money and a lot of time. He just loves his horses. So I’m so happy for him.

(Before the Derby) He’ll have a run somewhere or a trial at worst, but it’s good to get out of the way tonight. Now we don’t have to worry about making a plan, so we should have him for tonight.

Zeus Lightning remained a close second given the fast time, while Soho Trump can be expected to improve his performance.
