– Providence announced Tuesday that an anonymous donor will double contributions to men’s hockey’s revenue share by a staggering 10-to-1 ratio, for a total of $3 million through Dec. 31, 2025.
If the initiative reaches its ceiling, it will result in a $3.3 million increase to the Friars’ revenue sharing budget – $300,000 in direct donations, supplemented by the $3 million match.
“I am deeply grateful to one of our loyal Friar Family members for launching this transformative gift matching challenge,” says Athletic Director Steve Napolillo said. “As we compete in the best conference, Hockey East, I am grateful for the belief in Coach Leaman, our Men’s Ice Hockey Program and Providence College Athletics. I hope all Friar fans will consider making a donation to help unlock this men’s ice hockey revenue sharing challenge.”
Not to be outdone, Boston College unveiled its own $50 million competition campaign. The initiative will double all donations one-for-one over the next five to seven years. The school said the money will be spent on grants to support scholarships and operational costs. BC also announced that it will immediately fund its athletics program at the maximum level allowed under the revenue share model. The announcement came in a letter from the department after the football season ended.
