Connor McDavid has set a new Olympic record for most points in a single Winter Games tournament with NHL players! McDavid took over the top spot from Teemu Selanne (2006) and Saku Koivu (2006), who both had 11 points each.
During today’s men’s hockey semifinal against Finland at Milano Cortina 2026 (February 20, 2026), McDavid recorded his 12th point of the tournament with a secondary assist on Sam Reinhart’s power-play goal in the second period. That goal (Reinhart’s tip after a Cale Makar shot) cut Finland’s lead to 2-1 and pushed McDavid past the previous milestone.
McDavid entered the semifinals with 11 points (2 goals, 9 assists) in four games, tying the NHL-era Olympics record after getting two assists in Canada’s 4–3 OT quarterfinal win over the Czech Republic. His record point came as captain (Sidney Crosby was out due to injury).
This is McDavid’s first ever Olympic appearance, and he’s certainly made his mark, playing at a level that even McDavid fans might be surprised by.
Canada is still down 2-1 late in the second (after the Finnish PP opener after Bennett’s penalty and Haula’s short time), but McDavid’s playmaking means Team Canada is certainly not out of this game. They now have 20 minutes to make the decision.
