Sprinter wants to escape Silent Witness.

Ka Ying Rising will look for a record 18th consecutive victory in the Queen’s Silver Jubilee Cup in Sha Tin on Sunday.

The five-year-old has not been beaten since January 2024, a run that has taken him seven wins in Group 1, and the victory would give him a new record for a Hong Kong-trained horse to go ahead of the great Silent Witness for a winning run.

Trainer David Hayes believes his leadership will be back in top condition when Zac Purton takes the ride again.

Hayes said: “I’m really excited about the opportunity to try to break Silent Witness’ record. His canter was good – it was just his usual Ka Ying Rising gallop, and he’s very much into his routine, and it seems to suit him.

“He has only run 1400 meters (seven furlongs) once and that was in this race last year. I know he will and I know he is better this year than last year. If they go too fast in the race he will be second or third and if they go too slow he will lead.”

“Zac is very straightforward with him. I’m excited and really looking forward to it. I’ll be a little nervous on the day, as always, but it’s a very surreal feeling in Group 1 as you saddle up a horse that’s a one-dollar favorite. Not many trainers get to do that, and I can tell you it’s not as easy as it looks.”

“We have a very strict routine. It’s the same people working with him and we couldn’t be happier – he’s fantastic. He’s bigger, stronger and better than last year. My team has done a fantastic job with him.”

The four-year-old will face nine opponents, including old rival Lucky Sweynesse.
