A Grand Bluestone villa that was once the home of Vice -Admiral William Roke Creswell – known as the founder of the Royal Australian Navy – has hit the market.

The upcoming auction of 429 Military Road, Largs Bay, led to a barrage of interest from history lovers, as well as serious buyers looking for a family house on the beach.

Sir Creswell was only 13 years old when he started his naval career at the British Royal Navy in 1865.

He migrated to Australia in 1879 and held several high-ranking defense positions within the various colonies, including First Lieutenant on the South Australian ship, HMCS protector.

In 1896, Sir Creswell and his family moved to their Largs Bay house, which became a basis for discussions about the establishment of an Australian maritime strength and various defense -worthy of artificial workers, said sales agent Liz Miles, of Pilgrim Re.

The Largs Bay ownership on 429 Military RD is steeped in the history of SA.

It was the home of William Roke Creswell, known as the founder of the Royal Australian Navy.

It was also where discussions about the establishment of an Australian naval power were held.

“I don’t know exactly what they would discuss, but they would keep meetings in the salon (now a bedroom) and they probably have drawn many important papers,” said Miles.

“I would like to have been there this day – those walls would contain many stories. There is a lot of marine history there.”

Sir Creswell was later appointed the first naval officer to order the Commonwealth Naval Forces and became the first rear admiral after the founding of the Royal Australian Navy in 1911.

The willingness of the RAN for the service at the start of the First World War is largely attributed to lobbying Sir Creswell and hard work.

After a period of poor health, Sir Creswell died in Armadale in 1933.

In addition to his role in maritime history, it was Largs Bay -Huis, known as Creswell House, one of the earliest homes in the local district.

Built in 1882 – the same year as the Largs Pier Hotel – the house still has many original characteristics, including graceful ceilings, a marble fireplace and a servant Bell Pull.

Mrs. Miles said that historic French glass doors, which show the words ‘Liberal Club Building’, were installed during renovations by a previous owner, but she was not sure of their origins.

It is now a modern character house with four bedrooms and two bathrooms.

It attracts a lot of attention to the run -up to the auction.

The auction will be held on September 20.

The liberal club building of Adelaide was built in the CBD in 1925, but only the facade remains, next to the Myer Center on North Terrace.

The house, just 200 meters from the beach, also has a basement with a lookout panel in the ceiling to make the underwater view of the pole of the property possible, Miles said.

“There was a man who actually came to the inspection during the weekend (who used to live at the house) and said,” That (viewing panel) was built for me ” – he was a swimmer and his father had made that (panel) so that they could see his swimming in action,” she said.

Mrs. Miles said the house had a unique charm.

“There are so many attributes on this home and it is attractive for many buyers,” she said.

“It is really a large area in a great location.”

Creswell House, which is mentioned without a price guide, will be auctioned on Saturday 20 September, unless sold earlier.
