Himanta Sarma Slams Rahul Gandhi’s ‘prison’ remark, says he is himself on bail

On his first visit to Assam since Gaurav Gogoi took the lead as the president of the state congress, the leader of the opposition Rahul Gandhi Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of corruption and abuse of power and said that one day “Congress Lions” will send him to prison.

The visit occurs on next year’s elections in Assam and is seen as part of the renewed pressure of the congress to strengthen its base in the northeastern state.

Gandhi focused on that congress workers in Chaygaon and described them as “lions and lions” that no one fear and wear the DNA of the ideology of the congress. He formed the political climate of India as a struggle for ideologies – one of hatred and violence, promoted by the RSS, and the other of truth and non -violence, confirmed by the congress.

Gandhi said that the Assam Chief Minister would be imprisoned quickly for alleged corruption and that not even Prime Minister Narendra Modi or Minister of the Interior could save him.

“This will not be done by the Congrest Party. Assam’s youth, farmers, workers and people from all layers of life will ensure because they know that this man is corrupt,” he said, who accuses Sarma of daily land theft such as solar parks and resorts.

He also claimed that Sarma Assams landed and resolved resources to business giants such as Adani and Ambani while behaving like a king.

“There is fear behind his loud voice and big claims. He knows that the lions of the congress will place him behind bars one day,” Gandhi said. He compared the situation in Assam with what he described as an election manipulation in Maharashtra and a continuous effort to change the lists of voters in Bihar, warning that Assam could be the following.

On the other hand, who responded to Gandhi’s comments, Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed that the congress leader had stated in a meeting with a closed door that the CM would “certainly be sent to prison”.

Sarma took to X: “Take it in writing, Himanta Biswa Sarma will certainly be sent to prison – these were the exact words spoken by the leader of the opposition, Shri Rahul Gandhi.”

The main minister rejected the statement and said that Gandhi came all the way to Assam to make this comment. He added: “He came all the way to Assam to say this, to be handy forgetting that he himself is on bail in several criminal cases that have been registered throughout the country.”

Sarma added sarcastically: “Enjoy the hospitality of Assam for the rest of the day”.

Earlier in the day, Gandhi and Kharge held a meeting with a door closed in a hotel near Guwahati airport before they went to Chaygaon. According to Assam Congress Chief Gaurav Gogoi, the meeting included deep discussions to strengthen and plan the organization for upcoming election challenges.
