Hero World Challenge Below Average Picks: Favorite Bets of the Week

It won’t come as a surprise to anyone that Scottie Scheffler is the heavy betting favorite to win this week’s Hero World Challenge, although that’s to be expected given his resume, tournament history and a field of just 20 players.

According to Fanatics SportsbookScheffler’s odds to win this week are a ridiculous +140 as he looks to emerge victorious at the Tiger Woods event in the Bahamas for the third year in a row. In addition to winning the last two events here, Scheffler was also runner-up the two years prior.

Woods, the host, raved about Scheffler during his news conference Tuesday in Albany.

“What he does on the golf course is just incredible, the consistency day in and day out, the strategy, how he attacks the golf course,” Woods said. “It starts with you being able to see him analyzing it from the back green where the flag is, where he’s going to miss a tee shot, which club to hit, where the wind is, which side of the tee box to start on. It’s really amazing how attentive he is and how strategic he is throughout the round. And on top of that, he doesn’t have mistakes in a round like most players do. He’s there for all 18 holes and all the shots played and that’s hard to do. To do that day in and day out to deal with the grueling schedule that the Tour has and the players are now playing in a more condensed season, and the major events in which he plays.

“I mean, he’s won six times and they’re not small events,” he continued. “He beats the best pitches. So I can certainly appreciate that and I think I hope everyone else will appreciate it too, because you just don’t see this happening very often.”

Betting on Scheffler isn’t all that fun, though, especially with the paltry payouts for correctly predicting his top-10 positions (especially in small fields like these).

So for their Fanatics Sportsbook Bets of the Week, GOLF’s Subpar duo of Colt Knost and Drew Stoltz looked elsewhere. Knost picked Alex Noren for the top 10 (-115), while Stoltz picked JJ Spaun to finish in the top five (+190).

Norwegians recently played in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and the DP World Tour Championship, finishing in the top 20. Spaun’s last start came at the World Wide Technology Championship in early November, where he finished in eleventh place. Spaun has finished in the top 25 in his last six starts (including two top 10 finishes).
