The second century of Rubin Hermann in three days, together with a ton of brother Jordan, South Africa helped a comfortable seven-wicket victory over New Zealand A, because they took an indisputable 2-0 lead in their three-match one-day series in Benoni on Monday.
Left-handed opener Rubin, who blinded with a sparkling 158* from 93 balls in match one, this time scored a more careful 109 from 98 balls (13 four, 3 sixes)-an innings that went a long way to guide the hosts to a relatively simple victory in Willowmoore Park.
There was also a ton of brother Jordan, whose unbeaten innings of 101* from 105 balls (12 four, 2 sixes), earned him the player of the competition prize. He also took three wickets who tilted that decision to his advantage.
The brothers and sisters had merged for a second-wicket partnership of 154 run that turned out to be the key in a 249 chase after Tshepo Meleki had demanded a very impressive four for 19. Jordan for his side grabbed three for 20.
Eventually the South Africans walked easy winners to move 2-0 ahead, with the last match planned for Wednesday.
After having won the opening match with a narrow three wickets, this result was much more impressive thanks to the Hermanns and Meleki.
The last tore through the top order of the Kiwis and removed Nick Kelly (13), Gebon Jobs (0), to leave the tourists at 34 for four and later added the scalp of Curtis Haphy (35) and Ben Lister (3) to his name.
His transport saw the away game to 98 for six in one phase, before Zakary Foulkes (52 from 61 balls, 4 four, 1 six) and Simon Keene (77 out of 58 balls, 9 four, 2 sixes) set up a key 120 for the seventh Wicket to lead the recovery.
Jordan then both removed them to allocate the New Zeelanders 248 in the last.
South Africa lost Rivaldo Moonsamy (11) early during their answer, but the Hermanns calmed all the nerves with their excellent position.
They took their side to 190 for one, and although Rubin fell, together with Captain Marques Ackerman (4) not long after, Jordan and Sinethemba Qeshile (19*) crossed their side with seven overs.
