Here’s how Abhishek Sharma got stomach upset

Abhishek Sharma is suffering from stomach problems, it is widely reported. But what actually happened and how he got himself into the situation remained largely unknown.

On Wednesday, the Times of India claimed in a report that the opener had infected his stomach. And due to the deteriorated stomach, he also developed a high fever. For these reasons, he may miss India’s next match which is against Namibia on February 12.

How Abhishek Sharma affected his stomach?

“He went to the hospital for examination. He’s being fired today. We have one day left to make the decision,” Indian batsman Tilak Varma told reporters on Wednesday.

Abhishek Sharma was unwell before the India-US match

According to Times of India, Abhishek Sharma looked good ahead of India’s first match of the ICC T20 World 2026, which was against the United States. But before the match, his health began to deteriorate. But the batter himself decided to play the game.

He only conceded one ball and was dismissed for a golden duck. After returning to the pavilion, he did not return to the field. He may have eaten something in Mumbai, which affected his stomach.

“On February 6, after a net session at Wankhede Stadium, Abhishek ate something in Mumbai that caused stomach upset. On the match day, his condition worsened but the batsman decided to go ahead and play the match,” TOI claimed in their report.

Health began to deteriorate

Abhishek traveled to Delhi for the Namibia match. Instead of showing signs of improvement, his health began to deteriorate. The stomach infection was accompanied by high fever and severe weight loss.

“It is learned that the stomach infection worsened and led to high fever. The left-hander traveled with the team to New Delhi where his condition further deteriorated,” the report further claimed.

The weather may also have caused health problems. Compared to the north of the country, the temperature in the southern regions is currently rising.

Over the past few weeks, the Indian team has played matches in Nagpur, Raipur, Guwahati, Visakhapatnam, Thiruvananthapuram and then Mumbai where temperatures are on the higher side compared to the weather in Delhi where temperatures are still at a lower level. The ups and downs in temperature often have a significant effect on a human body.

If Abhishek Sharma remains unfit to play the match between India and Namibia on February 12, Sanju Samson can take his place in the playing combination as an opener.
