The ministerial committee of the Maharashtra government has approved the start of the Snicane Covering season from 1 November. However, it warned that excessive rain can reduce the percentage of sugar recovery this year. The fall in recovery is likely to lower sugar production throughout the state, which causes significant economic losses for both farmers and millers.
Prime Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced the start of the crushing season of 2025-26 during a recent meeting of the Ministerial Committee in Mumbai. The committee assessed the flood -related damage to sugar cane cultivation in different regions.
Millers said that a decrease in the recovery speed will influence the sugar yield and insisted on the state to extend support to guarantee smooth activities. Many said that they still have to pay the Fair and Rayerative Price (FRP) last season (FRP) last season because of the financial tension, and the coming season will worsen.
Tax for CM Fund
Despite these worries, the government decided to raise RS 10 per ton on Sugar Mills for the auxiliary fund of the Chief Minister and RS 5 per tonne for help to farmers affected by flooding. Millers resisted the move and claimed that sugar cane farmers themselves have hit hard, flooded with large pieces. They warned that the extra levy would be a double blow to reed growers.
