The first heat for the fillies was taken out by the inexperienced Lets Go Lorna (Always B Miki), who upset her more favored rivals.
LETS GO LORNA NOVEMBER 7 REPETITION
Early alongside Lets Go Lorna ended up getting some cover from driver James Herbertson, even though she had quite a bit of work done. Carry On Cornish was given the lead. Favorite ALifetimeforliving got the race behind the leader.
Alifetimeforliving looked like they would steal the race but Lets Go Lorna, who had had a tough run, switched to the inside and finished too well for Alifetimeforliving with Tivoli wide on the last lap and fighting for third ahead of Brighton, who came from far back.
Lets Go Lorna is royally bred and is the first offspring of the former class mare Berisari who won 21 races and achieved a best mileage of 1.52.
Berisari was third in the Victoria Oaks and won the Empire for 3YO fillies, as well as the Empire VicBred and the Angelique Club Cup. She was ridden by Gary Murnane, who has retained ownership of Lets Go Lorna.
The three-year-old Australian Soho Americano (American Ideal) gave another strong performance when she won the second heat. Fresh from her excellent victory in the Victoria Oaks, Soho Americano was spoiled by Luke McCarthy, who deviated from the inside second row to take the one-out, one-back course.
The highly coveted Let Her Roll was moved into the lead by Ryan Sanderson and ran a very fast 27.6 seconds for her third quarter. But Soho Americano was up to the task and with the inside run they soon got the better of Let Her Roll to win by five meters, while Joyride was third a further nine meters away.
Soho Americano posted a score of 1.55.2 for the 2240 meters and during that run she will make endless gains in the $100,000 Final in Melton on November 22.
Beach Diamond (Somebeachsomewhere) finished second in the Victoria Oaks and impressed as she paced her rivals into the third heat.
A raging favorite, there was nothing else that could beat her. Beach Diamond was brought back to the back of the field by driver Ryan Sanderson with less than two laps to travel, but Ideal Moth went ahead of her.
That didn’t worry Beach Diamond as she stepped on the accelerator at the back and left her rivals standing. As she eased off the line she had more than 20 meters to spare on Flojo’s Best, with Harley Lane being held up doing her best work for third.
Beach Diamond has a score of 1.56 and will be a worthy competitor to Soho Americano in the final.
Her victory marked a double for trainer Emma Stewart and driver Ryan Sanderson.
