In India’s T20 World Cup squad for the upcoming edition, the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee picked Ishan Kishan as reserve opener, with Gill making way after dismal performances in the Asia Cup and in series against Australia and South Africa. Sanju Samson and Abhishek are expected to open the batting for the Men in Blue once the big event begins.
“They are all excellent players but I am on the selection committee when they judge players based on their current form and fitness. Current form plays an important role in the context of selection. And if you ask who I would have chosen instead of Gill, my choice would have been Jaiswal. He has proven time and time again what a class player he is and has always given the team the kind of starts that are needed these days,” Vengsarkar told Sportskeeda.

Stating that Jaiswal has done well in different formats for India, Vengsarkar said he doesn’t know what else the Mumbai batsman needs to do to be picked in the national team’s T20 lineup.
“It’s a shame that Yashasvi has been left out time and again through no fault of his own. He has been in great form in all formats and I don’t know what else he needs to do to get into the team. No one should leave a match-winner out of the team,” Vengsarkar said.
