In the meantime, most of you have probably heard about the 11 yearlings who were bought on Tuesday by a kill-buyer during a sale in Texas. Here is the original explanation of the executive director of the organizer of De Sale, the Texas Thoroughbred Association:
“We are aware of the online reports of horses from our yearling sale this week that appear in suspected kill advertisements on social media. We are furious and sad to see this. To reference we have taken steps to rule the buyers of our sales of our sale and he has been to do it.
“Unfortunately, by the time we suspected the activity, he had bought and … legally possessed the yearlings … We spoke with the buyer at the sale and we reached him by telephone today. He claims that these horses should not be killed and that owners/breeders can buy the horses back. We are working on a solution for this situation that is absolutely not acceptable.”
Presumably all 11 babies – so young, that they had no names – in turn were bought (by different entities/individuals) from O’dwyer. Here is O’dwyer’s reaction:
“It’s a public auction. I went there. I don’t hide anything. I gave my name. I was wearing this hat. There is Bowie Livestock. People knew who I was. I went inside and I bought horses and I was called halfway through this auction. Are you going to kill pen? “I said,” I run one. ” And I offered all those horses back to them, and they didn’t take them with them. “
Than this:
“People get mad in the thoroughbred industry, they all think it’s rainbows and daffodils and green grass flying over the dittches, but it’s not. There is a need, whether you like it or not, for some like me go it is you don’t, these auction auction is there, these auction is like Getting Calls in Here for the Last Two Hours, People for Buying Thesis Horses.
You can hate him – but at least he is fair.
