Harmanpreet Kaur creates history as India Seal T20 series wins Sri Lanka

Harmanpreet Kaur created history on Thursday by becoming the most successful captain in women’s T20Is. She surpassed Meg Lanning’s record of 76 wins after India sealed the series against Sri Lanka in Trivandrum.

The milestone 77th win came in Harmanpreet’s 130th match as captain, underlining her long run at the top. England’s Heather Knight is next on the list with 72 wins, followed by former Australian captain Charlotte Edwards with 68.

India ended the T20I series in style, beating Sri Lanka by eight wickets to take an unassailable 3-0 lead. It was another one-sided match with India dominating from the start with both ball and bat.

Sri Lanka were held to 112 for 7 after being put in to bat. Renuka Singh led the charge with three wickets, while Deepti Sharma bowled a tight spell that stifled the scoring in the middle overs.

Deepti’s performance also pushed her to the top of the all-time women’s T20I wicket-takers list, where she now sits joint first. Sri Lanka tried to fight back late through Kavisha Dilhari, but the total was never enough.

The chase was made easy by Shafali Verma, who hit an unbeaten 79 off just 42 balls. She attacked from the start and did not let the pressure build, ending the match with many balls to spare.

After the win, Harmanpreet said that the team has been clear about raising standards after the World Cup. “It was a great series for all of us,” she said. “We talked about being more aggressive in the T20s because the T20 World Cup is coming up.”

She also emphasized the importance of bowling in the shortest format. “Today we are in this position because of our bowlers. Credit goes to our bowling line-up for the way they have bowled in this series,” Harmanpreet added.
