Hamilton looks to fight back from P20 after ‘terrible’ exit in Q1 in Las Vegas | RACER

Lewis Hamilton says he will try to shake off the ‘terrible’ feeling of his Q1 exit at the Las Vegas Grand Prix to fight his way back from last place on the grid.

Ferrari looked competitive during practice in Las Vegas, but Hamilton did not complete a clear lap during wet qualifying. He complained of a lack of tire temperature and then failed to push for a final attempt, unaware he had beaten the checkered flag. Hamilton dropped out in twentieth place and would start from the last place on the grid. According to Hamilton, the car’s performance is encouraging, despite its low position.

“Obviously it feels terrible, it doesn’t feel good,” Hamilton said. “But all I can do is let go. I’m going to try to come back. I just have to let it go. I’m going to try to come back.” [in the race].

“I did everything I could do in terms of preparation, in terms of practice sessions… [FP3] I felt great and at the end I couldn’t do a lap, but I felt like we were the fastest. And then you finish twentieth in qualifying.

“This year is definitely the hardest year.

‘I’ll try [to come back]. I think we have a very good car. It will be very, very difficult to come back from twentieth place, but… [I’ll try].”

Hamilton’s teammate Charles Leclerc also had a frustrating end to qualifying when he ran wide at Turn 12 and finished ninth in Q3. The Monegasque believes there is something wrong with Ferrari’s car characteristics in wet conditions.

“Since I joined the team we have had a lot of difficulty finding grip in these types of conditions,” Leclerc told F1TV. “It’s extremely frustrating because it’s probably been my biggest strength in the junior categories and then… We’re doing something wrong. I have no idea what that is because we’ve turned the car upside down.”

“We had Lewis and of course Carlos [Sainz] Before that, other teams came along to tell us how they felt about the other cars. It’s just very difficult to find grip with our car.

“It’s very, very unpredictable with our car, so we make a lot of mistakes. It’s not that we’re not trying, because as a team we’ve tried absolutely everything. For some reason we haven’t found our way yet.”
