Ferrari Team -director Fred Vasseur says that Lewis Hamilton is frustrated but not demotivated after a number of hard comments during the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend.
Hamilton described himself as “absolutely useless” after dropping in Q2 in qualifying, adding that Ferrari “should probably change from director” after teammate Charles Leclerc had seen the pole position. The sevenfold world champion was Downbeat in the same way after the end of the 12th-second position he started and said that he would not change his earlier comments.
“Not special,” Hamilton told Sky Sports. “If you have a feeling, you have a feeling. There is a lot going on in the background that is not great, so …”
Hamilton added: “I still love the team,” when he was pushed on his love for racing, and Vasseur says that fans should not regard his attitude in Budapest as a lack of motivation.
“I don’t have to motivate him,” said Vasseur. “To be honest, he is frustrated, but not demotivated. It is a completely different story. I can perfectly understand the situation. Sometimes you make comments about what the driver says in the car, but if you place the microphone on some other athletes in football and so on, I am not sure if it would be much better.
“They are in implementation and sometimes they make comments, even when they jump out of the car. I can understand the frustration, but we are all frustrated. Sometimes if you ask me, I can’t do that ; I’m going to the stewards! But sometimes just after the race or just after qualification, you are very disappointed and the first reaction is hard.
“We all know that we are pushing in the same direction and the right side of today is that when we put everything together, we can do the pole position and lead the first 40 laps. If you can lead the first 40 laps, you can go to the end. Now we must find why we have lost the pace and to correct and correct it for the next.”
Vasseur also says that the end result in the Hungaroring was a by -product of the starting position, which indicates the ninth placed finish of Max Verstappen after a challenging qualification as another example of how competitive the field is this year.
“I would rather do P1 and P1, but we already know that you could ask Max the same question,” he said. “If a championship is completely different this season – it is very, very tight. If you are not at the pace, you can do that [P12] In qualifying.
“We know that yesterday in qualifying, it did not go well. Then we took a few bets, and if you make a bet like this to start hards, you know you can lose positions or not. We have lost, and then we also did the bet to go for one stop, because if you are P14 and you don’t have a train other.”
