Lewis Hamilton says he would still make the move to Ferrari even knowing what a difficult year awaits him as he looks for his first podium for the team at the Qatar Grand Prix.
Ferrari fought for the Constructors’ Championship last season but have taken a step back from their rivals this year and have so far failed to win a race with two rounds remaining. Hamilton has a sprint win and a top three finish, but is yet to finish on the podium in a Grand Prix. But despite the frustration with how 2025 turned out, he says he would do it all again.
“First of all, that’s a hypothetical question, so I wouldn’t really go into that, but I would absolutely [still have moved from Mercedes]Hamilton said: “I don’t regret the decision I made to join the team, I know it takes time to build and grow within an organization and I expected that. So yes.
“The passion is the most special thing about the brand and the people who work for it. And then the tifosi as we travel around the world, the great support we receive.
“I think that probably makes it even harder when we have the tougher and tougher weekends because you can see how passionate, how dedicated and how hard everyone in the factory is working, and the results don’t reflect or reward them. So you feel it more. It’s a big emotional bubble and that’s quite precious.”
After a disappointing Las Vegas Grand Prix, Hamilton described this year as the worst season ever and suggested he would not look forward to 2026, but he played down those comments in Qatar.
“I think at this stage I’d probably be surprised if at the end of a season the other drivers are excited about next year, because usually at the end of a season you don’t have a lot of energy. You’re looking forward to time with family and stuff,” he said.
“That’s just in the heat of frustration. Often there’s a lot of frustration at the end of races, especially if they haven’t gone well, so I’m excited to see what the team will build next year and to build on that with them.
“I certainly think we still have a lot of work to do. In the winter we will analyze the season and there are a lot of improvements that we need to make collectively, but I don’t think anyone in the team is under the illusion that we all have a role to play, and I believe we can do that. So I hope we will implement and make those changes, along with hopefully a better package for next year.”
