Great Wall Motor (GWM) Malaysia has announced that the GWM Wey G9 Hi4 PHEV has secured more than 800 bookings within the first week of launch, reflecting growing confidence in hybrid mobility. The MPV, which costs RM269,800 (on-road, without insurance), made its Malaysian debut on January 29.
“We are encouraged by the strong response from Malaysian customers. For us, the bookings are more than a number, they show that customers understand what the Wey G9 stands for. This vehicle represents our vision of intelligent luxury mobility, combining cutting-edge technology with true comfort. Early responses tell us that Malaysians are ready to enter a new era of New Energy Mobility.” said GWM Malaysia MD Cui Anqi.
The Wey G9 is locally assembled at EP Manufacturing’s (EPMB) factory in Pegoh, Melaka, reflecting the company’s commitment to Malaysia and its confidence in the country’s manufacturing capabilities.

“This milestone reflects not only strong consumer demand, but also the capabilities of Malaysia’s local assembly ecosystem. By leveraging our skilled workforce and supplier network, we prove that Malaysia can deliver global standards while building long-term value for the domestic industry,” said Roslan Abdullah, COO of GWM Malaysia.
The seven-seater luxury people mover (2-2-3 layout) is powered by the latest version of the carmaker’s Hi4 Intelligent Hybrid 4WD system, which consists of a 150 PS (148 PS, or 110 kW) and 240 Nm 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo engine mated to a four-speed special hybrid transmission (DHT) with an integrated 109 PS (107 PS, or 80 kW) and 170 Nm electric motor driving the front wheels, with another 184 PS (181 hp or 135 kW) and 232 Nm motor at the rear.
The combined system output is 442 PS (436 hp or 325 kW) and 642 Nm, allowing the Wey G9 to complete the 0-100 km/h sprint in 5.7 seconds on its way to a top speed of 190 km/h. A 44.2 kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) battery ensures that the MPV can drive 170 km according to the NEDC standard (or approximately 145 km WLTP) on pure electric energy alone.
With a 58 liter fuel tank, the claimed total range for the MPV is 1,000 km (NEDC), which equates to approximately 850 km WLTP. The battery can be charged from 30% to 80% via DC charging at a maximum rate of 60 kW in 26 minutes, while AC charging at 6.6 kW will fill the battery from 15% to 100% in 6.5 hours.
The Wey G9 comes equipped with intelligent LED headlights with automatic high beam, LED daytime running lights and fog lights, LED taillights/rear fog lights, a dual sunroof and 18-inch 10-double-spoke dual-tone alloys.
The interior package includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument display and a 14.6-inch infotainment touchscreen, center row, six-way adjustable zero-gravity captain’s chairs, ambient lighting in 64 colors, a head-up display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 50-watt Qi wireless charger, a 2,440-watt/21-speaker audio system, a hands-free power liftgate, 11 USB ports in the cabin and an automatic three-zone air conditioning system.
