The connections of New Zealand-bred Trotter Gus hope that a return to his native country will be fruitful on the second Tuesday in November.
Gus is currently in the fifth games with tab for $ 10 for the Renwick Farms Dominion Protot on Cup Day on Addington Raceway on Tuesday 11 November.
He will be part of an Aussie attack in search of back-to-back Dominion Success Nblus for Just Believe last year.
Gus was missing on debut for Nathan Williamson in March 2023, Gus made up for an amazing victory two weeks later, despite the fact that he is blowing the start again.
It did not surprisingly caught the attention of many, including Bloodstock agent Geoff Gibson-Smith, who had been combining for many years with the Turpin-MCMullen stable from Queensland for great success.
A deal was closed and the then four-year-old made his way to Australia, where he showed that glimpse of sparkle, between his walking and lagging fraggers.
He certainly announced himself as a future Open Class star during the Inter Dominion series 2023, especially in round two when he placed it to starmare Queen Elida when finally finished third.
Until 2024 he took many winter carnival functions that Renwick Farms Dominion put on the radar last year. However, the wheels dropped out at the end of that campaign and plans were suspended.
Now as a six -year -old he looks like the straight and narrow, and seems a much better rounded Renpaard and much more reliable.
“His speed has been there since day one, but we just had to do his ways well,” said his trainer and the biggest fan, Chantal Turpin.
“I have loved him since the day he walked off the truck”
“He has so much character and is definitely a stable favorite,” she said.
That favorite status has sometimes been tested, but the faith and patience of the team have developed him into one of the best in Australia, as proven when a striking fourth in the recent Grand Final Inter Dominion.
“He certainly has grown up, but we have also changed his work at home, he is now warming up at the races and seems to thrive in his new routine”
That was completely visible when producing an exceptionally third in the menangle Trotters Cup last Saturday when producing a personal last mile in 1.52.5 After an early Bobble changed its 10 -meter handicap much more.
Described as his “best performance so far” by Chantal, some reactions after the race of stand in Driver Cameron Hart have only promoted the stables in the future.
“Cam gave me a lot of confidence on Saturday evening with a glowing report, and it also proved that Pete and I are not biased towards him,” she laughed.
The young couple is now ready for their biggest challenge so far when they travel their small trotter to New Zealand for the first time.
“Gus was booked to fly on November 2, before we intend to take him to the Cup Day Trials in Addington prior to the Great on November 11”.
