Kismatsinh Chavda, his wife Heenaben and their daughter Devanshi were kidnapped in the North African country while trying to migrate to Portugal, where Chavda’s brother has settled, said Mehsana Chief Inspector of Police Himanshu Solanki.
The family, residents of Badalpura village in Mehsana district, traveled with the help of a Portugal-based agent with plans to settle in the European country, he said. Mehsana collector SK Prajapati has been informed about the incident.
According to police, the family flew from Ahmedabad to Dubai on November 29. From Dubai they were taken to the city of Benghazi in Libya, where they were reportedly kidnapped.
“Chavda’s brother lives in Portugal and the family was traveling with the help of an officer based there. The officers involved in the case are not Indians,” Solanki said.
The kidnappers contacted the relatives of the family in Mehsana and demanded Rs 2 crore as ransom, he added.

Collector Prajapati said the victim’s family members approached him on Friday (December 13, 2025). āThe matter has been brought to the attention of the state government and the Ministry of External Affairs,ā he said.
