Guildford takes OT winner in Glasgow | Pro Hockey News

Guildford Flames emerged from Glasgow with a 3-2 win against the Clan on Friday evening.

The hosts started well and came out of the blocks faster. After sustained attacking pressure, Glasgow took a deserved lead when Deven Sideroff finished off a great move from Brayden Burke and Cade Neilson.

Guildford responded strongly in the second period. Facing his former club, Cole Ully leveled the match at half-time and struck again three minutes later with a well-placed finish from a wide angle, turning the match in the Flames’ favor.

“I think they came out really tough in the first period and you have to give them credit,” Ully said. “They’re a brutal team and quite inconsistent in the offensive zone. We got into the game in the second, scored a couple of goals and in the third they took it to us, but we weathered the storm. Fazio was great.”

Clan pushed back in the final period and leveled the match when Robert Lachowicz fed a pass across the slot for Alex Forbes, who fired in from an acute angle with less than fifteen minutes to play. Glasgow kept momentum through the closing stages but could not find a winner.

Overtime was decided by a moment of individual brilliance. Charlie Curti pretended to retreat to the neutral zone, caught two Clan players mid-substitution and then intervened alone to beat Sami Aittokallio for the winning goal.

“The last few games have gone into extra time and we couldn’t get the extra points, so it’s definitely nice to come away with the two,” Ully added. “In a building like this, achieving both points is huge for us.”
