City staged a clinic to dismantle the Premier League champions at the Etihad, with Jeremy Doku the star of the show.
The Belgian winger tormented Liverpool all afternoon, scoring a sublime third goal after earlier efforts from Erling Haaland and Nico Gonzalez. Haaland had earlier missed a penalty to open the scoring as City claimed early control in the match.
City’s victory saw Guardiola celebrate his 1,000th managerial game with three points and keep Citizens within reach of Arsenal at the top of the table.
Speaking full-time to Match of the Day, Guardiola enjoyed his side’s performance and reserved special praise for man-of-the-match Doku.
“Really good first half, they pushed more [in the second half]. Especially in the first five-10 minutes we forget to play a bit. They lose balls and we created momentum for them. Then they have one or two chances.
WHAT. A. WINNING.

“Overall they were excellent. The right pace to play with the ball, the demand from the teams to be there defensively.”
Discussing Doku, he praised an ‘excellent’ individual performance from the winger: “Listen, I know I’m good, but don’t overestimate me. The players do it for themselves. We have to try to give them good momentum and good connection. Do you think I teach him how to dribble openings? This is natural talent.”
“He’s playing an excellent game against one of the best full-backs in the Premier League.”
