Guardiola: Man City are too inconsistent to win the Premier League

Pep Guardiola believes Manchester City must be more consistent if they want to challenge Arsenal for the Premier League title.

His side came from behind to beat Liverpool 2-1 at Anfield on Sunday evening to keep them within six points of the top Gunners.

Although it kept their hopes of regaining the trophy alive, it was only City’s second win of 2026.

Pep Guardiola admits Man City are ‘not consistent’ enough to win the Premier League title

Asked at his pre-match press conference whether his players could mount a serious title challenge, Guardiola replied: “We have done very good things. I have had that feeling for many, many months, but we are not consistent enough. OK, we have controlled many aspects to more or less win the games.”

“[Against Liverpool] we leveled the match with a deflected cross from Rayan Cherki, and after some intelligent play we scored from there, from a deflection.

“We had an incredible save from Giorgio [Donnarumma]. That’s football.”

He continued: “It will happen if we do what we have to do. I want to earn the three points. I want us to play the way we have to play to stay there.”

Man City can close the gap on Arsenal to three points if they beat Fulham at home on Wednesday, while the north London side face Brentford on Thursday.

“Every time I go for an interview before the match in the last few weeks and months, if you lose you lose everything and you’re going to disappear from planet Earth and all that. So what I’m saying is, what do you have to do to beat Fulham?”
