Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has admitted that Arsenal was the ‘better side’ after the 1-1 draw between the teams in North London.
Arsenal immediately made the goal of Gabriel Martinelli to save a point after it had fired Haaland Manchester City before the break. City had trouble getting control in the competition and only 32.8% of the property succeeded, the lowest ever registered by a Guardiola team.
Despite the late setback of Martinelli’s equalizer, Guardiola was satisfied with the performance of his team after a test week from opposition.
“We played tough matches this week – Manchester United and in the Champions League – and today we played against a powerful team,” he told Sky Sports.
“Hats off for our team for the resilience. It is so difficult if you are not effective with a high press, it is always difficult in the structure.
“We have made some transitions. I think the result is fair. In general, Arsenal was better.
“It was so demanding today and Arsenal had everything – we defended the corners so well. We will take the point, we have to improve, but it is what it is.
“We were incredibly tired. The match against Napoli was so emotional and after that recovery day we have four or five hours to travel to London. Arsenal fought in the last two Premier League title races and reached the semi-final of the Champions League so it’s so difficult.
“We had a lot of fatigue with many players. We also have many injuries.”
