In a short statement shared on its blog and social media, Rockstar Games announced that it is highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI game won’t be released until the second half of 2026, instead of May.
The company states that it still needs a few months to further refine the game, and would like to thank everyone for their patience so far. We can now expect the game on November 19, 2026. The game was initially scheduled for late 2025 and then May 26, 2026, before this delay. If you have to wait a while, don’t forget the indie Grand Theft Toronto.
Unfortunately, this news brought nothing new game informationscreenshots or trailers. But hopefully, now that the game is a year away and largely finished after some polish, the company will start sharing more about the world and the stories within it.
Hello everyone,
Grand Theft Auto VI will now be released on Thursday, November 19, 2026.
We’re sorry to have added extra time to what we realize has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to complete the game with the level of polish you’ve come to expect and… pic.twitter.com/yLX9KIiDzX

While this is annoying, Rockstar fans expected this. GTA V was originally scheduled for spring 2013 and was postponed until fall. Red Dead Redemption 2 was postponed three times, and the last delay was also for ‘polishing’. That said, both GTA V And Red Dead Redemption 2 launched after those delays to huge success and critical acclaim, so that seems to have been the right choice.
The other option would be to rush the game out, which could result in something like the launch of Cyberpunk 2077, which contained extremely many errors and took a long time after launch to reach a stable point. The developers even re-optimized the skill trees and controls many months after release. While Cyberpunk is now considered a top tier game, but it wasn’t at launch because it wasn’t delayed enough.
All in all, GTA VI will remain on the horizon and gamers will get it when it comes out, but the bigger challenge is that other publishers and development studios will now have to adjust their release schedules to avoid falling into the black hole of gaming. GTA VI will definitely bring.
