Mumbai: The re -hunting of GST -plates will make products more affordable for consumers, which facilitates the stress for the market segment at entry level, said Nyrika Holkar, executive director of Godrej Enterprises Group (GEG), who expects a reduction of taxes to give parties. The move, Holkar said, will also push premiumization. Availability of financing options has made it easy for consumers to buy products without paying them in advance and lower taxes will only give more money in the hands of people who help expenses. “The change in GST for devices is very positive for us. It will reduce consumers less, the entry level segment of the middle class remains stressed today and we should see that segment pick up in the festive period. Nowadays, devices (ACS) are not allowed to be discretionary purchases; Given the climatic shifts and other factors, they have become essential, “said Holkar. For GIG, which has four consumer companies, the equipment segment that includes AC portfolio will benefit from the GST reset. ACS that were previously taxed at 28% are placed below 18% tax board, which extends the accessibility for a larger share of households with a low and middle income. The equipment activities, in which Godrej competes with a mix of local and global players such as Tata’s Voltas, Samsung and LG, makes up for about 30% of the group’s income. In India, ACS’s penetration is 10%. The Device Portfolio of GEG includes dishwashers, which will also see a reduction in the tax, although the share of sales is not high. For GIG, that is consumer portfolio for devices and furniture premiumized, the GST Boost offers the opportunity to expand its market share. India Inc is hopeful that lower taxes will give a lead to broader consumption, because consumers can spend more. GEG comes on the Omni-Channel game in its interio (furniture) company that has set an objective in three years to double income to RS 10,000 crore. The strategy will be to build new store formats as consumers become more experiential -oriented and strengthen its game online (own website), allowing companies to reach more consumers. In a market where online platforms such as Amazon and Flipkart quickly innovate and players of 10 minutes rewrite the rules, the competition for legacy companies are intensified. There is a change in the way people buy and browse nowadays, Holkar said and GEG will set up the online game. “More than 80% of today’s searches start online. We will also shorten our delivery time,” said Holkar. After the split of the Godrej family last year, GEG renewed its brand identity and accelerated digital transformation. On Tuesday, the group also launched a renewed brand identity for the interio business.
