Markus Brier has won the Black Desert Ni legends in Galgorm and held his nerve in strong winds on the last day to claim a First Legends Tour victory since 2021.
Rounds of 65, 69 and 70 saw him end in -12, two free from Mikael Lundberg from Sweden, with Lionel Alexandre and Phillip Price a shot back on -9. Steve Webster – A winner last week at The Grass & Co. English Legends – Birdied The last two holes to secure a Solo 5 5one Place finish.
After having trouble finding his game for a number of years, two-time DP World Tour winner Brier was delighted in the circle of the winner after a master class in course management and recording. “I am so happy. The last two years were not what I wanted, so would come back in North Ireland, just feels so good,” said the Austrian.
“Winning again means everything for me. We are here to win, and if you have not won and have not even been in battle, it is difficult. But it is what I work for and I now know that I am on the right way and I hope I can keep it. I have found something with my swing and now I have faith with the putter.”
Sweden’s Lundberg was left to have three front -nine Bogeys in Ruen when he finished two Drift van Brier, and although he managed to put some pressure with Birdies on 17 and 18 to reach -10, it was never enough. Solo Second lifts him at least until the seventh in the order of merit, whereby the victory Bier sees to 12 riseone. Scott Hend van Australia still leads from Keith Horne, with 2023 winner Peter Baker now third.
Lionel Alexandre, who needs a top 20 finish in the order of merit to secure his card for next year, is now 22NDAfter he had recorded a first top five since he went T4 and T3 in the two events of the season. “I didn’t expect that,” he said afterwards. “I knew that I was playing well, but my well was not there. So I tried to be a little more focused on the pace of the greens and it seems to work. It was a good day today. I am used to playing in the wind, so I just tried to keep the ball in the game and make shot.
Earlier in the week, 16 young elite amateurs from Noord -Irland participated in the future legends of the Legends Tour, presented by Black Desert Resort. After two rounds that played in addition to Legends Tour professionals, the 13-year-old Parker Bonnes-a member claimed at Galgorm-De Victory with an impressive 81 Stableford points.
