The Evian championship is full of artistry.
It is difficult for art not to happen to what is host with France for the fourth major championship of the season for the LPGA, but inspiration was clear on the ground and specifically through the winner of the tournament in Grace Kim.
Jeeno Thitikul, winner of the Mizuho Americas who opened earlier this season, seemed to be the winner of this whole thing before Kim de Jets turned on at the finish. She was on a absolute fire over her last six holes, including the play against Jeeno: Birdie, Birdie, Par, Eagle, Birdie, Eagle.
The two Playoff holes both took place at 18, a par 5 that invited scoring opportunities. Things seemed to look grim for Grace at the first game after she had to take a drop, but then she walked in to make Birdie and send things to a second game of the hole. She made up for it by making Eagle to win.
It is not more dramatic than this. Consider again the bet in the sense that Grace was confronted with a terrible situation with Jeeno that appeared on the edge of Birdie (which she did). To let this go after he has become a play -off to force a play -off … sometimes it’s just your day.
Kim is an Australian and her victory meant a serious achievement for the country. With Minjee Lee who has won the KPMG -PGA championship for women, this is now the first time that Australians have won several Majors in one season on the professional men’s or ladies’ tours. For what it is worth, Karrie Webb won several Majors himself in both 2000 and 2001.
Needless to say, the last round was incredible with the Evian. Well done by Grace Kim.
