Google Photos is getting this groundbreaking facial editing feature

There is no shortage of image editing tools that you can find in the Google Photos app. However, unlike some alternative image editing apps, the Photos app cannot edit specific parts of people’s faces. But that will soon change.

Looking inside version 7.56.0.839465534 from the Google Photos app, Android Authority managed to activate the dormant “Touch Up” functionality. The site first revealed the underlying code for the feature back in October and has now been able to give us an early taste of how it works.

This function will appear below Actionswhich can be accessed from the row of editing options at the bottom of the image editor. Users will be prompted for it 16MB To touch Upwards getting started package, which, as the description clearly states, “can retouch faces.” After this short process, users will find a brand new interface with these tools:

  • Soft
  • Under the eyes
  • Irises
  • Teeth
  • Eyebrows
  • Lips

Each of these options offers a slider from 0 to 100 to adjust the effects to your liking. But this isn’t even the best feature of the feature.

Seamlessly edit faces in group photos

In addition to giving you detailed control over facial features in selfies, Touch Up can also edit the faces in group photos. Up to six faces can be edited this way, as shown in the screenshot below, with the option to edit each face individually using the new tools. If a group photo contains more than six faces, a toast will inform users that only six are supported.

Touch Up doesn’t let users manually select the faces they want to edit in an image, which can be annoying if the photo has multiple people in the background. To take advantage of this feature in Google Photos, a paid Gemini subscription is likely required, although this cannot be confirmed at this time.

As with leaks like this, we don’t have a date to mark our calendars for its rollout to Google Photos yet. But since then Touch up appears to be functioning as expected, at least based on Android Authority’s early assessment. We’d be surprised if Google Photos didn’t make this official in the coming weeks.

It’s worth remembering that Google’s Camera app already offers this Subtle And Soft face retouching options for portrait images. This upcoming Touch Up feature goes one step further by offering advanced editing options right in the Photos app.
