Google will spend the $40 billion on three new data centers in Texas, according to the American newspaper The New York Times Houston Chronicleultimately bringing the company’s total number of data centers in the state to five once construction is complete.
The data centers will be located in Armstrong County and Haskell County, Bloomberg reported CEO Sundar Pichai, who said at a news conference that the “investment will create thousands of jobs, provide skills training for students and electrical apprentices, and accelerate energy affordability initiatives across Texas.”
Governor Greg Abbott said Texas will have the highest number of Google data centers in the world if the company’s three data centers become a reality, according to Bloomberg.

What other AI companies are investing in data centers in Texas?
Texas has become an attractive state for data centers thanks to the availability of land and cheaper electricity for industrial use. OpenAI, which recently launched a $500 billion for-profit arm, is building a flagship AI data center in Abilene, Texas, expected to open in 2026. The data center is one of several the company plans to launch as part of a larger project that will build more infrastructure in Ohio and New Mexico. Anthropic announced one this week Investment of 50 billion dollars to build data centers in several states, including Texas and New York.
