Golfkanaal has a new owner.
And an old logo.
If you went through the acronyms and spin-off language of last year’s Comcast news, you’ll remember that Golf Channel will no longer be part of NBC, but will instead be a new company called Versant. As a result of the change, the NBC peacock has disappeared from the logo. And the new logo, which was unveiled shortly before the new year, looks an awful lot like the old pre-NBC Golf Channel logo.
Golf Channel, which prides itself on its relationships with most of the major golf tours, said in a news release that there will be iterations of the logo that will align with the PGA Tour and LPGA Tour logos around coverage of their events. And Tom Knapp, EVP and GM of Golf Channel, offered this:
“Our new Golf Channel logo incorporates elements of our storied 30-year history with a modern look. Viewers and fans will be familiar with the updated ‘Circle G’ from the past, now alongside our modern ‘Golf Channel’ font, which reflects our evolution as a network. We look forward to serving those who participate in today’s golf lifestyle while staying true to our roots.”
Under Knapp’s leadership, Golf Channel has gone out of its way to emphasize new content offerings as it charts its new path. Their morning programming will continue to focus on podcast-style talk shows, continuing with Gary Williams’ smart, thorough 5 Clubs show and adding The Smylie Show, the Golf Channel Podcast with Rex and Lav, The Big Swing with Jimmy Roberts and the Vanity Index Podcast to the 2026 lineup.
The announcement of “Big Break” came as Golf Channel is also working its way back into the competition-slash-exhibition genre that has emerged in various forms both on YouTube and the Match series in recent years. The Optum Golf Channel Games in December featured a skills competition between Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler, which was well received. McIlroy’s longstanding relationship with the network will continue into the Versant future; they recently announced the creation of a story studio“Firethorn Productions.”
And if you want to keep score at home, Golf Channel has spun off from NBC/Comcast alongside networks like MSNBC (rebranded as MS Now), CNBC and USA Network. Their new parent company is called Versant. Versant’s sports division is called USA Sports, who has announced his plans to broadcast more than “10,000 hours of action-packed programming” by 2026.
All you really need to know is that Golf Channel is probably in the same place you left it. And you recognize the logo.
