Barangay Ginebra coach Tim Cone joked that he had mapped a malignant plot to let San Miguel -Bierster June Mar Fajardo live the first day of the preparation of Gilas Pilipinas on the Fiba Asia Cup and has Havel for Game 7 of their PBA Philippine Semifinal Series.
“I tried to get him and insist that he would come,” Cone said before he smiled. “I [was] I’m going to do it wind sprints. But coach already [San Miguel Corporation sports director Alfrancis Chua] said “no.” But my plan was to let him do wind sprints. ‘
Fajardo was apologized to participate in the session, which was reduced to a mix of meet-up, film display and voluntary shooting exercises, given his focus on bigger things like San Miguel and Ginebra meet again for the right to have a crack to deny TNT’s offer for a great SLAM.
Tipoff was set at 19:30 in Smart Araneta Coliseum, the schedule that was determined after the dramatic three-Pointer of La Tenorio that gave Ginebra a victory of 88-87 on Sunday.
Tenorio not only offered a lifeline, but an inspiration for the favorites of the audience, who reconciled for their game 5 defeat and at the same time knew several double digits shortages.
Other health problems
But Cone expects that a side of San Miguel is determined to make up for the blown opportunity, with Fajardo expected he would give everything, even though he suffers from a calf injury in the series. Game 6 saw Fajardo’s 21 points and 16 rebounds go for nothing after the winner of Tenorio.
“We take Game 7 as it comes,” said Cone, whose team has its own issue of ailments.
Japeth Aguilar suffered from cramps during the fourth quarter, while Scottie Thompson continues to deal with a hamstring problem.
Both have found ways to produce decent figures, despite health problems, in which Thompson places 13.8 points, 7.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists in the series and Aguilar places an average of 13.2 points and 5.3 rebounds.
But going back to the tenorio shot, Cone has a reason to believe that it can cause something big on the road.
“If we happen to win this championship, everyone will remember it [Game 6] … He gave us a chance, “Cone said too.
Fajardo is an average of 11.2 points and 14.5 rebounds, but his minutes have risen as the series progressed and is expected to log tough minutes, regardless of his condition.
CJ Perez, Jericho Cruz, Don Trollano, Rodney Brondial and Mo Tautaa are considered crucial in the search of the affarents to be the one who derails the Tropang 5G’s march from history.
The winner will meet TNT in the title series that starts on Sunday at a location announced at the end of the semi -final. The Tropang 5G has the luxury of a long break after completing the rain or shine elasto painters in game 6. Inq
