Even a four-run inning to reclaim the leadership could empty the Geualen-Success attack on Wednesday on Wednesday. After he returned to take a short 5-4 lead in the fourth inning, the Rockies blew when San Francisco responded with a five-run inning on the way to a 10-8 victory.
The Giants have now searched in 17 consecutive games and they hit 10 in the three-game series Sweep Against the Rockies. With the Mets, Cubs, Padres and Reds all lost on Wednesday, the Giants (71-69) moved to four games from the third wildcard spot. The Rockies, who threw 11 times in the game, fell to 39-101 and are 1-5 on their current homing stand.
Matt Chapman was the first giant from the Dugout and turned on the physical fight when he pushed Kyle Freeland into the fight on Tuesday evening. His actions earned a fine and a suspension, but Chapman appealed against the decision. If he had been suspended, he would not be allowed to play. But the profession slows down any consequence until it is maintained or destroyed.
So Chapman, who earned angry from the Coors Field Faithful together with Rafael Devers for Tuesday’s Shenanigans, was in the starting line -up on Wednesday. And he benefited from it and hit the first throw he saw, a 93.5 MPH Fastball from Germán Márquez 450 feet above midfield and the park. The shot led the second inning and set up the Giants 1-0.
Márquez was drawn after five, after he gave up four points on eight hits with three free runs and one strikeout. Luis Peralta came in and it got much worse. After they had fallen to the Rockies with 5-4 after five innings, the Giants immediately climbed back on the box score.
Peralta gave walks to Casey Schmitt and Luis Matos before Patrick Bailey and Heliot Ramos immediately let him pay with back-to-back singles to put the giants back on the top 6-5. Peralta got Devers to line out, but was then pulled for Juan Mejia.
Mejia started to hit Willy Adames strongly, but then came across problems with the player who really wished all Rockies fans were suspended. Chapman hit another Homer, this time a three-run shot, to set up the Giants 9-5. Chapman also doubled and walked in the night. Drew Gilbert added a solo recording in the seventh to place San Francisco in double digits.
The Rockies gathered again in the bottom of the ninth when Kyle Karros hit a one-out single and ran Hitter Mickey Moniak. Tyler Freeman hit a single to load the bases and Ezequiz Tovar followed with a bag fly to score Karros and make it 10-6.
That brought Hunter Goodman on the record and the All-Star continued his great series with a two-run double that cut the Giants lead to 10-8. Goodman hit 3-out-5 at night with three RBI. With two out and the equal run represents, Jordan Beck out to end the game.
On Tuesday and Wednesday combined against the Giants, Goodman hit 6-out-9 with seven RBIs, one gay, a double and two scored points.
Robbie Ray had eight strikeouts due to the first 4 1/3 innings. That is eight of the 13 outs through strikeout and only three singles. But everything changed in the fifth when the Rockies fell 4-1. Karros got the rally started with a double and Ryan Ritter brought him in third place in a groundout.
Freeman then hit a single to plate Karros and Tovar walked to put runners on first and second. After a starting time with eight seeds, Goodman hit the left, who sent Freeman Racing home. Ramos’ Gooi on the board made things interesting when Bailey stepped straight into the Basepath to catch it. Freeman tried to avoid it, but nails Bailey. Both players fell to the ground before Freeman crawled back to touch the board to bring 4-3 of it
The Giants challenged the piece. The call stood. Freeman had no choice.
Giants coach Bob Melvin was ejected when the problems between the Rockies and Giants continued to cook.
Back to the game, Beck hit a go-ahead single to score Tovar and Goodman and set the Rockies 5-4.
Beck’s hit also ended Ray’s Night when the former Cy Young winner was drawn after five points (four earned) on seven hits with one walk and eight strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings.
The top of the third inning was quite unpleasant because of the giants who slowly and stable attack on Márquez. Matos, Bailey, Ramos and Devers touch four consecutive singles to lead the collection. Fortunately, Matos was completed a bit too much and fell on the single from Bailey and was tagged. So the single from Devers only made it 2-0.
Then Willy Adames hit a SAC fly to increase the lead from San Francisco to 3-0. Chapman ran before Wilmer Flores added to the single party and rode in Devers to bring the score to 4-0. Gilbert then took a walk to load the bases. Fortunately, Márquez Schmitt had figured out to end the threat.
Three points of singles were bad, but it could have been much worse if Márquez did not load the bases.
In the bottom of the fourth, Tovar de Rockies got first hit of the game with a one-out single. Goodman continued his impressive series with a different single to put runners on first and third with one out. After Beck had taken it down, Brenton Doyle hit a sharp grounder on the left side of the Infield. Chapman, who played the third base, slid to try to put a glove on it, but kicked it instead. The ball shot in the outfield, giving Doyle a single and scored Tovar.
The piece not only placed the Rockies the first run on the board, but was also satisfactory for greater reasons, even if it was only one run compared to the four Chapman who came in.
The Rockies have a day off on Thursday before they organize the San Diego Padres for a three-game series from Friday. Freeland, who only threw eight throws on Tuesday, gets the start. San Diego still has to call a pitcher.
