Giannis Leads Bucks Past Lakers With Clutch Defense – TalkBasket.net

Giannis Antetokounmpo blocked a layup and stole the ball from LeBron James on consecutive possessions in the final minute, helping the Milwaukee Bucks to a 105-101 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers at Crypto.com Arena on Friday. Kevin Porter Jr. scored 22 points, including four free throws, to secure Milwaukee’s fifth win in seven games.

Antetokounmpo finished with 21 points, six rebounds and four assists in his lowest scoring outing since returning from a right calf injury. LeBron James recorded 26 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds, while Luka Doncic added 24 points and nine assists but fouled out in the final seconds.

The Bucks built a double-digit lead in the first half despite Giannis being on a minutes restriction. Los Angeles erased the deficit with a 17-4 run to start the fourth quarter, giving the Lakers a brief lead when James converted an Antetokounmpo steal with 6:02 remaining.

Milwaukee responded when Porter tied the game with a layup and later made two crucial free throws after Giannis’ defensive stops. The Bucks hit 77% of their free throws and 35% from three-point range, holding off a Lakers squad that shot 42% from beyond the arc.

Porter’s performance complemented Giannis’ defensive impact, with the Bucks overcoming their previous missed shots and controlling the game in the final two minutes. Ryan Rollins contributed 10 points, and Myles Turner added 8 points with six rebounds to support the team’s balanced attack.

Los Angeles struggled with their supporting cast as Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura remained sidelined, although Hachimura may return next week. Despite the efforts of Doncic and James, the Lakers have now lost six of their last ten games.

The Bucks improve to 17-21 and look to continue their momentum when they visit Denver on Sunday. The Lakers, who fall to 23-13, will look to bounce back against Sacramento on Monday.
