Last July, Geely introduced an updated version of the Geely Galaxy E5 in China, where it received a battery with a larger capacity and longer range. The update appears to be offered for the export model where this SUV is known as the Geely EX5 – reports out Driving force mentioned that an Australian government certification document for the EX5 2026 has already been seen, indicating that the launch will happen soon.

The updated model is paired with a short LFP Aegis battery with a capacity of 68.39 kWh, allowing it to travel 530 to 610 km in the CLTC test cycle, or around 500 km in the more precise WLTP test. By comparison, the existing model only offers a range of 410 km WLTP for the variant with the longest range.

In addition, the updated version also supports DC fast chargers that are more powerful than the 100 kW of the existing version, allowing the larger battery to be filled in the same time as before, from 30% to 80% in 20 minutes.

It also received the V2L system to tap battery power for the use of other electrical equipment, which was increased from 3.3 kW to 6.6 kW. But it still comes with the same electric motor producing 218bhp and 320Nm of peak torque driving the front wheels, helping it accelerate from 0-100km/h in 6.9 seconds before reaching a top speed of 180km/h.

After Australia, this level is expected to be offered in other markets, and the EX5’s twin in Malaysia, the Proton eMas 7 in its highest variant, Premium, may also receive the same update. However, it may take some time as eMas 7 has just been installed in Tanjong Malim using existing batteries.

So maybe this version with a bigger battery will be offered in Malaysia from next year? In China, the base variant of the Galaxy E5 also received a battery upgrade that gets a battery with a capacity of 60.22 kWh – here too, the base variant of the eMas 7 Prime can be expected to receive the same update, allowing the cheapest variant to travel up to 430 km in the WLTP cycle.
