The Thai prices of the Geely EX2 have been announced: 399,990 baht (RM51k) for the Pro and 429,990 baht (RM55k) for the Max, reports AutolifeThailand. That’s a lot cheaper than our RM57k-70k Proton eMas 5so it’s time to compare. Thailand gets its automotive CBU from China – we currently do the same; our CKD will come later.

Before you all your sarongs Additionally, keep in mind that Thailand’s entry-level EV market is very crowded, competitive and cutthroat. Geely entered Thailand relatively late, when there were already many established brands, so the EX2 is priced accordingly. While in Malaysia, the eMas 5 is the first and only EV under RM100k (so far), so it is in a class of its own. It has also been well received with over 10,000 bookings to date, unprecedented for an EV here.

In Thailand, both the Pro and Max variants get a 116 hp/150 Nm rear electric motor (like our eMas 5 Premium); there doesn’t seem to be a lesser option like the 79 hp/130 Nm unit of our eMas 5 Prime. Same story with the battery: the Thai EX2 gets just one choice of 39.4 kWh, giving a NEDC range of 395 km (compared to the eMas 5’s 30.12/40.16 kWh and 225/325 km WLTP). 39.4 kWh is likely the net figure of the gross 40.16 kWh, meaning the EX2 gets the larger battery as standard.

In terms of equipment, the specs are largely the same, but the EX2 adds a few things not available on the eMas 5, such as a wireless phone charger, a power driver’s seat and a tonneau cover, which Pro-Net may offer later à la eMas 7.

Additionally, the base EX2 Pro already gets automatic LED projector headlights and a leather steering wheel, both of which we need to buy the eMas 5 Premium to enjoy. The Proton fights back with immediately available Apple CarPlay/Android Auto (supported only from 2Q25 for Thai buyers) and a powered tailgate, which the Geely doesn’t get in Thailand.

Another difference is that the EX2’s passenger side dashboard and door cards have a city lighting motif instead of the shooting stars on the eMas 5.

As for colours, the Thai car is available in Nebula Beige, Comet Grey, Star Silver and Moon White (the top-spec Max also gets an Aurora Green option; all Max cars have black roofs), while the interior is Skyline White or Horizon Gray depending on the variant.

Meanwhile, our eMas 5 is available in Moonstone White, Graphite Silver and Slate Gray (the highest-spec Premium also gets Marble Cream and Quartz Rose choices; all Premium cars have black roofs). The interior is alabaster white while the exterior is marble cream or quartz pink; otherwise it is flint gray.

Guarantees? Thai Geely distributor Thonburi Neustern offers six years/160,000 km for the vehicle, eight years/180,000 km for the battery and eight years of free 24-hour roadside assistance, while Proton’s package includes a six-year/unlimited kilometer vehicle warranty and an eight-year/160,000 km warranty on the battery and powertrain.
