GB Futures defeated Hungary in Four Nations – Ice Hockey UK

GB Futures defeated Hungary 3-2 in an exciting game in the four nations among the 16 gentlemen in Tallinn on Friday.

It is now a victory and a defeat for GB in the four-team tournament with a last game against hosts Estonia to come tomorrow (Saturday).

William John Hanna started between the pipes for GB and turned a remarkable 64 of the 66 shots with which he was confronted.

Callum Wilson made GB Vooruit in the first period (3:49) before Hungary was equal to Konrád Gál (12:20).

The middle frame saw GB open a lead of two goals thanks to Harry Marshall (35:01) and the Powerplay strike by William Durgan a little more than two minutes later (37:16).

A late goal from Csomgor Kiss (58:12) set up a tense finish, but GB looked the game to secure the three points.

Head coach, Euan King, said: “I am really, very proud of the boys. They fought hard, they were aggressive and they really got well behind Pucks.

“Sometimes we bent, but we are never broken, which is a great feature to have. When we got our chances, we were clinical.

“There were impressive versions about the ice and our netminding was exceptional.

“This was an incredible result considering it was the second time that this team had played together and given the standard of the nation we were against.

“It is something to build on and now we are getting ready for Estonia while hopefully playing in the same way.”
