Last week Gates piloted Mankat to victory for trainer Gary Campbell and owner Noah Stanley and today Gates rode Razor’s Edge to a 1:56.2 victory for the same connections – Campbell and Stanley – overcoming an outside post and a rough journey to reach the winner’s circle.

At the wire the margin was three parts of a length over Talk Racy To Me, handled by Trey Brinson, while Victorian Thunder and Od Johnson were tied in third place.

Jm’s Determination, slow early from the inside post, finished fourth with Dune With Class, with Matthew Wilson handling the lines, taking the nickel after a tough trip from the eighth post and actually closing fastest of all despite being outside the entire route.

Razor’s Edge, a nine-year-old gelding son of Dear Loufollowed his seven foes early as Dontinvitemeun and Michael Riley posted a :28.4 opener before succumbing to Brinson’d Talk Racy To Me shortly afterwards, clocking subsequent splits of :57.2 and 1:26.

Razor’s Edge, meanwhile, had risen to fifth place at this point and had to do some back and forth maneuvering to find a path to the winner’s circle.

Trainer Gary Campbell said in a post-race interview: “Adarryl gave Razor’s Edge a great ride today and I’m very proud of how he did, especially this season.”

Gates has won 11 of 41 starts this semester and has a “batting average” of .381.

For Razor’s Edge, the win sent his 2025 scorecard to 5-5-4 in 30 starts, good for a $42,378 bounty. The gelding has $289,111 in his bank account for life.

In the winner’s circle celebrating the win, trainer Campbell further lamented, “You know, I really think the (USHDC) amateur club and this track do a great service to the community with frequent charity presentations and today is really special for the Boys and Girls Club of the Cumberland Plateau. They help so many in so many ways and that’s why the program here is so successful… the riders are all for it!”

The Mint’s Shannon Taylor added: “The Boys and Girls Club of Cumberland Plateau is doing a great service to our community in ‘Building Great Futures’ with their belief that success is within the reach of every young person and teenager who walks through their doors.

“It is an honor for us to take part in this and everyone appreciates the generosity of the USHDC members in donating their earnings to this charity and other causes we have had throughout the season!”

Cumberland Run races through November 4.
